Approach to Supervision

My name is Joel Friesen and I am one of the Assistant Directors of Community Based Services for the Associated Clinic of Psychology. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from St. Mary’s University and have my LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist). I have worked at ACP since 2002. One of my main responsibilities is to oversee the community based division’s multicultural services program. ACP has partnered with different Somali owned agencies to provide ARMHS and CTSS program services to the Somali community and other immigrant specific populations.

In addition to providing clinical supervision to the Mental Health Practitioners associated with our culture specific partners, I also am a board certified supervisor for providers at ACP seeking LPCC and LMFT licensure. I love working with my supervisees to improve their clinical skills and working to better their therapeutic skills and competencies. Helping others improve their ability to reduce mental health suffering in the community is so rewarding and seeing first hand my supervisees growth means so much to me.

Telehealth Services

To expand and improve our care options for clients, ACP offers Telehealth (phone or video) appointments. Telehealth uses phone or video conferencing to connect you with highly qualified and experienced providers in real-time from the comfort and convenience of your own home or office. Before your telehealth appointment, you will receive details for how you will connect with your provider. If you will be connecting via phone, the provider will plan to call you at your scheduled appointment time. Please be ready to take the call and also check that your phone allows calls from blocked numbers (accessible within your phone settings). If you will be connecting via video conference, your provider will email you an invite to join the appointment.
